Jerome E "Jerry" Miner Sr

Jerome “Jerry” E. Miner, Sr., 83, of Cadyville, passed away April 17, 2019 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Clayburg, NY on May 7, 1935, the son of Wilmer and Victoria (Racette) Miner. Jerry attended Sallaz Academy in Redford, NY and Mount Assumption Institute. After graduation, he worked various jobs including bookkeeper and salesman at J.B. Todd Pontiac in Plattsburgh. In 1967, he was hired as treasurer for Saranac Central School District, retiring in 1991. He also owned and operated Miner's Tax Service, preparing personal income tax returns and quarterly reports for several area businesses from the mid 1960's until after his retirement.
Jerry was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus for over 65 years, a charter member of the Morrisonville council which was formed in 1968. He was instrumental in the construction of the council home in 1976. He was active in his community, serving as a lay trustee and Eucharistic Minister at St. James Church in Cadyville. In addition, he was a member of the Town of Schuyler Falls Assessment Review Board, and volunteered annually to count money for the firemen's field day. He loved spending time outdoors; hunting, fishing, and cutting firewood. Plenty of fun and laughter could be had by all at his camp. Jerry was an avid dancer, a beloved member of the North Country Squares. He also enjoyed playing cards and trips to the casino. Jerry's greatest passion was his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Christina (Lapham) and their children: Tina, and her companion Robbie Favreau; Jerome “Jay” Jr. and his wife Sheila; Maurice and his fiancee Bridget Wilson; and Matthew and his wife Renee, all of Cadyville; grandchildren James Grenier, Jeremy Miner, Kenny Ramsey, Mariah Miner, Shane Miner, Lydia Miner, Mikayla Miner, Matthew & Christopher Miner; great-grandchildren Morgan & Jaxon, & step-grandchildren J.J. & Britney Simard; his siblings; Mary Mainville, Theresa Haughton, W. Gerald (Rita) Miner, Rudolph “Rudy” Miner, Roger (Cookie) Miner, Roman (Taunyia) Miner, Maureen (Joseph) Lightfoot and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 22, 2019 from 4:00-7:00pm at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 11:00am at the Church of the Assumption in Redford. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Chris Miner to establish a scholarship for a Saranac Central School graduate pursuing a career in accounting.
